Internships
Do you want to gain valuable work experience? What better way to do that than through obtaining an internship? Internships allow you to work for an employer in a field related to your career choice and aspirations to earn college credits at the same time!
Columbus State Community College defines an internship as:
- Any mentored, work-based learning experience with an educational focus that allows students opportunities to incorporate theoretical concepts into practical work experiences under the guidance of experienced professionals.
- A work based experiential learning specifically related to students declared major, for which the student earns academic credit.
- The internship should provide the student with a meaningful experience directly related to their course of study.
- Internship Agreement Forms need to be submitted by Friday of week 13 in the semester before.
Internships are the connection between real-life experience, classroom application and skills development in a professional setting. Work-based experiential learning affords students networking opportunities in professional fields and allows employers the opportunity to view the next wave of talent entering the job market.
Many of the degree programs at Columbus State Community College require students to complete an internship. Students participate in an internship for one semester during their second year of study and they can earn college credit for their internship. Additionally, while many internships are paid or include some other form of compensation, some internships are unpaid.
