Good As Gold

As a service to the community, Columbus State Community College offers Ohio residents who are 60 years old or older the opportunity to audit courses for self-enrichment, on a space-available basis. Good as Gold student enrollment may not exceed 10% of the class.

While a tuition fee is not charged for these courses, Good as Gold students are charged all other fees associated with the course. Other fees that may be charged include, but are not limited to: lab fees, technology and facilities fees, and online course fees. Click here for a full list of fees that may be associated with a class.

Good as Gold students are only eligible to audit courses and will not receive college credit for these courses. Auditing a course means that faculty members are not obligated to spend office hours and/or evaluate course work for a grade. Auditing a course will result in a grade of "R" on the student record, which which designates an audited course and has no GPA value.

Requirements for Participation

  • Ohio residents who are 60 years old or older prior to the first day the desired course begins.
  • Good as Gold students must have an application on file. If you're new to Columbus State or have been away for three or more years, please submit a Standard Application at cscc.edu/apply and indicate a "Non-Degree Credit" major. If you have been a for-credit or Good as Gold student in the past three years, please confirm your CSCC username and password are up to date by using the "Discover/Activate" option at password.cscc.edu and contact the Telephone Information Center at 614-287-5353 to verify that your contact information is up to date.
  • Students must make the appropriate contact with the College and declare their intent to participate; please see the "Contact and Declare Intent to Participate" section below for instructions. This interaction will include certification of eligibility for the “Good as Gold” Educational Program and the student record will be set up in the system for Good aFs Gold registrations.
  • “Good as Gold” students may request to be registered for credit courses only on a space-available basis and for audit “R” only.

Responsibilities and Rights

  • Good as Gold students are responsible for payment of lab fees, technology and facilities fees, books, instructional supplies, parking permits and any additional educational expenses required of other students by the fee payment deadline as listed above.
  • Registration will begin on the first day of the semester unless the college is closed for a holiday observance. When there is a closing for a holiday observance on the first day of the semester, the registration requests will be processed the next business day.
  • Good as Gold students cannot enroll for courses granting academic credit and audit Good as Gold courses in the same term.
  • Good as Gold students must withdraw from the Good as Gold program during the terms they desire to take courses for academic credit and should declare their intent to do so by contacting goodasgold@cscc.edu. These students may need to meet with an academic adviser and complete a placement exam.
  • Student rates to activities or on-campus opportunities are available to “Good as Gold” students. Financial aid is not available for “Good as Gold” courses, since they are audited and not taken for academic credit.
