Safety Tips
Columbus State Community College places a high priority on the safety of its students and staff members. The Police Department strives to maintain our excellent safety record every single day.
Although uniformed Campus Police Officers patrol the Columbus campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it is crucial that the campus community take responsibility for its safety. 90% of campus crimes are crimes of opportunity. You can reduce your chances of being a crime victim by taking some simple steps to protect yourself. By watching out for yourself and others, we can all contribute to a safe campus environment.
- Lock your vehicle and secure all valuables out of sight or in the trunk. Commonly stolen items such as laptops, purses, bookbags, and textbooks are prime targets for theft.
- Don't leave your valuables unattended in buildings.
- Remember to walk groups if possible. Walking with a friend can minimize your risk of being a potential target.
- Another risk is walking and texting. When you do this, you aren't paying complete attention to your surroundings and someone could surprise you without your knowledge.
- If you don't feel safe, call the Columbus State Police Department at (614) 287-2525, to request a Security Escort.
- If you see or notice any suspicious activity, please call the Police Department at 614-287-2525. See Something, Say Something!!
