CHOICES About Alcohol
CHOICES is a brief alcohol abuse prevention and harm reduction program for college-enrolled students involving interactive journaling. The program involves one, 50-minute, facilitated online class presented by Counseling Services. Throughout CHOICES, students are presented with information, and then reflect on what they have learned as it relates to their choices about drinking in their personal journals. Rather than focusing on abstinence, this program encourages a harm-reduction approach to drinking. While it is important to recognize the illegal nature of any underage alcohol use, it is equally important to provide students with accurate information and strategies for reducing their risk if they choose to drink alcohol. CHOICES is presented in a non-confrontational manner that enables students to make their own decisions about alcohol consumption.
CHOICES was created by The Change Companies®, Alan Marlatt, Ph.D., and George Parks, Ph.D. The program is based upon research by the University of Washington Addictive Behaviors Research Center, which has been recognized by NIAAA and SAMHSA as leading alcohol abuse prevention for college students.

Counseling Services has also created an interactive online workshop for CHOICES so that students can utilize the program 24/7 and reduce harm associated with drinking.
ScreenU
Research suggests that alcohol and other drug misuse impacts students at a variety of levels, from academic failure to delayed advancement, due to injury or student conduct issues. Given that substance misuse has a detrimental effect on student performance, institutions strive to decrease high-risk drinking and other drug use on campuses as a means of enhancing the quality of the learning environment for all students.
ScreenU Alcohol provides feedback to students about their own alcohol use and risk for experiencing negative consequences and links students to the resources and support needed to help them be successful academically and beyond.
