Columbus State faculty present at statewide STEM conference

Update | Monday, April 21, 2025

An inaugural joint conference on April 12 brought together educators, researchers, students, and industry partners from across Ohio to explore the theme “Workforce Development: Connecting College to Careers Through STEM Education.”

The college was represented by four faculty members and a student at the 2025 Ohio Academy of Science and Ohio Project Kaleidoscope joint meeting held at Miami University.

Their three presentations showcased the innovative work happening at Columbus State:

  • Sacha Tadros, Health Professions & Wellness assistant professor, and Matthew Saelzler, Biological & Physical Sciences assistant professor, delivered a talk titled "STEM Education: Strategic Partnerships for Biotechnology Career Pathways," highlighting Columbus State’s collaborations with industry to enhance student career readiness.
  • Caleb Evans, Biological & Physical Sciences instructor, presented "AI Use Trends in Education and How It Should Impact Our Teaching," offering timely insights into the evolving role of artificial intelligence in STEM education.
  • Fatima Atta Muhammad, a Columbus State student mentored by Allison Foster, Biological & Physical Sciences assistant professor, presented a research poster (pictured below) titled "Ebstein’s Anomaly: A Comparative Analysis of Surgical and Non-Surgical Interventions Across the Lifespan." Her systematic literature review examined outcomes and treatment strategies for this rare congenital heart defect, offering insights relevant to clinical decision-making and patient care.

Participation in this statewide event reflects Columbus State’s ongoing commitment to innovation in STEM education and to preparing students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to contribute to Ohio’s growing and evolving STEM workforce.
