New online chat tool to debut
Update | Monday, April 21, 2025
Columbus State is preparing to launch a new online chat tool. The new chat service will include AI crawler bots. The bots will gather information from the Columbus State website and college-provided PDFs. The tool then synthesizes the information into natural language responses to answer student and visitor questions and provides links when appropriate.
A diligent team of testers has worked with students to complete extensive testing. That testing led to edits on the website, excluded pages from what the tool crawls, and the development of PDFs with FAQs for the tool to consume. These efforts to "train" the bot have prepared it to provide solid responses to a variety of first-tier student and visitor questions.
What’s next?
- The new chat tool will be soft launched on Wednesday, April 23.
- To successfully manage the soft launch, the number of pages where users can initiate a chat will be limited. Over time, users will be able to initiate a chat on additional web pages.
- The existing live Radius Chat option will be removed from all Columbus State web pages when the new chat tool goes live this week.
