Ohio SBDC at Columbus State hires bilingual business advisor

Update | Friday, June 28, 2024

The Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Columbus State recently hired Pamela Alvaro Unzueta as a bilingual business advisor. In her role, Unzueta will provide SBDC advising and training support to central Ohio’s Latino and Hispanic small business owners.

Michael Bowers, SBDC director, said, “The SBDC is critical to supporting the growing Hispanic and Latino population in central Ohio, and Pamela is the key to providing those services in Spanish to people whose English is not their primary language.”

According to the United States Census, the Latino population has increased by 43 percent between 2010 and 2020, with an additional 31 percent growth expected by 2030. The Ohio Department of Development estimates that central Ohio has 2,200 Hispanic and Latino small businesses.

“Hispanic and Latino-owned small business owners are one of the fastest growing communities in Central Ohio, and the addition of a Latino small business advisor will be an invaluable resource," said Small Business Administration District Director Everett M. Woodel, Jr. "We are excited to welcome Pamela Alvaro Unzueta to the Latino Small Business Development Center at Columbus State."

Unzueta is a small business owner with a bachelor’s degree from Universidad del Valle de México, Campus Lomas Verdes in México City. She can assist any Hispanic and Latino-owned small business owner with no-cost business advising and training in Spanish. Unzueta can be reached at palvarounzueta@cscc.edu, or 614-287-3690.
