Gospel Vocal Ensemble to perform Sept. 28
Update | Monday, September 25, 2023
In June 2008, Congress officially declared September as Gospel Music Heritage Month. To commemorate this special occasion, Columbus State’s Gospel Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Emma L. Easton, will present a tribute concert titled "Amazing Grace: The Gospel According to Aretha." The free concert is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in the fourth-floor Conference Center in WD.
This concert will delve into the rich history of gospel music. It will also pay tribute to the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who had her roots in gospel music. Despite achieving mainstream success, the concert will highlight Aretha's unwavering devotion to the gospel genre.
Special guests for this event include the JELANI Performers, Sharon Nolen, Amelia Rose, and recording artists Lisa Griffin and Rosetta Perry. Marvin Miller, Jr., a former member of the Billboard-charting and Stellar award-nominated gospel group Men of God's Heart, will serve as emcee.
