Save the date: MLK Jr. Celebration Jan. 23-27
Update | Tuesday, December 20, 2022
Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during our 33rd-annual event, kicking off Jan. 23! This year’s celebration, themed “Upward Together: Our Destinies are Tied Together” features a 10 a.m. Jan. 25 keynote appearance by Theo E.J. Wilson, speaker and author, at Mitchell Hall.
As we continue his work to build a better, more inclusive, community, Columbus State is proud to champion the powerful messages of Dr. King with a weeklong series of readings, volunteer opportunities, art installations, and more. For full descriptions of the events held during the week, visit www.cscc.edu/MLK.
Keynote speaker Theo E.J. Wilson is an award-winning poet, community activist, and author known as “The New Black Klansman” after a video of himself infiltrating the alt-right movement went viral. Wilson uses his platform to address the importance of having courageous conversations with people whose opinions differ from your own.
Every year, we recognize one student and one employee who has made significant and lasting contributions to build an environment where diversity is honored. Nominate a Barb Smith-Allen Visionary Columbus State Dreamer in honor of Dr. King here.
In the words of Dr. King, “We must all learn to live together as brothers, or we will all perish together as fools. We are tied together in the single garment of destiny…whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
