Columbus State Nursing course hosts virtual career readiness event

Update | Wednesday, September 29, 2021

Just ahead of graduation, 85 Columbus State nursing students recently participated in a virtual career readiness event in their final semester. The students are in NURS 2873 – Leadership, Role Transition, and Nursing Care of Patients with Multiple Health Problems. The event gave them the opportunity to apply course concepts of professionalism, leadership, and communication while actively preparing to be career ready.

Several community health care partners presented their organizations in a virtual format. The nursing students had the opportunity to visit “virtual booths” to discover, explore, and learn about career options while actively engaging prospective employers.

During a portion of the event each student participated in a mock virtual interview conducted by managers and recruiters from OhioHealth and OSU Wexner Medical Center, and Columbus State faculty with managerial experience. The interviewers critiqued the students’ interviews and provided immediate feedback and suggestions.

Columbus State’s Career Services assisted with managing the virtual booths and guiding students through stations. Career Services had already provided a variety of tools and resources for students to utilize in writing effective cover letters and resumes and suggestions for successful virtual interviews.
