Respiratory Care Program earns high recognition

Update | Tuesday, June 15, 2021

Columbus State’s Respiratory Care Program has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Credentialing Success. It is awarded to schools with a 100% success rate on the credentialing exam for the Registered Respiratory Therapist students. In Ohio, Columbus State is the only community college and only one of two institutions to receive the award. (Kettering College is the other.)

Assistant Professors Andrea Pifher and Kendra Barker-Poirier use active and collaborative learning to bring real-life, relevant educational experiences to prepare respiratory students for the national board exams. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for respiratory therapists who manage ventilators needed to keep some patients alive.
