Students in the Strength of Materials class (MECH 2242) typically meet to compare final projects after they have constructed bridges out of drinking straws and pins. The project utilizes concepts learned in the course. The students then load the bridges to failure. Their grade consists of the ratio between the load it held and the weight of the bridge. This year, because of COVID-19, the students dropped off their submissions, and two Engineering & Transportation Technology faculty members – Professor Adele Wright and Adjunct Professor Paul Bott – tested them.
