CBD topic of Chemical Society meeting hosted by Columbus State

Update | Monday, December 6, 2021

Columbus State hosted the Columbus American Chemical Society (ACS) local section meeting on November 17. Michael Wernke, senior toxicologist and pharmacologist at Columbus-based SEA Limited, was the keynote speaker. Wernke determines the presence of harmful or intoxicating chemicals, analyzes data for harmful contaminants in consumer products, and evaluates contributing factors in the cause of death or illness.

His presentation, “To CBD or Not to CBD,” covered the current topic of CBD (cannabidiol) products sold in stores. While broaching the topic of CBD’s legality, Wernke’s focus was directed toward the lack of federal regulations placed on CBD products and a potential method to discern its use from that of illegal products containing THC.
