Teams breakout rooms now available
Update | Tuesday, December 15, 2020
Microsoft has made breakout rooms available in Teams meetings. The new service began this week. Watch for further enhancements to breakout rooms in the future.
There are also additional recent updates that you might be interested in learning about. Many features are only available in the desktop version, which is recommended for full functionality. You may also need to update your Teams application and sign out to see changes take effect. Often, it does take time for all the features to appear.
New features include the following:
- Breakout rooms: Meeting organizers can divide meeting participants into small groups for discussion and bring everyone back into the main meeting at any time.
- New look when you join a meeting: New menu for selecting audio and video settings before you enter a Teams meeting.
- Notification settings: Updated menu makes it easier to manage your notifications and keep track of the activity you care about.
- Mute your attendees: Meeting organizers can now force attendees to stay muted and reopen attendee microphones when desired (helpful for formal presentations with a large audience).
For an overview of changes and how to find them, check our Knowledge Base article What’s new in Teams?. IT will be hosting virtual training sessions on breakout rooms in January. Dates will be announced in Update once they have been scheduled.
In the meantime, if you need support with Teams or other technology, contact the IT Support Center at 614-287-5050, email helpdesk@cscc.edu, or access assistance through the web at cscc.edu/ithelp.
