FIX series on diversity this Friday

Update | Tuesday, October 13, 2020

The Office of Academic Affairs Instructional Success Committee is proud to announce the Faculty Idea Exchange (FIX) Virtual Lecture Series on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Classroom. It will be held this Friday, October 16 from 1-2:30 p.m.

Due to the inability to meet for the FIX 2020 Summer Conference, and in light of social justice issues in our country and community, the Instructional Success Committee will be offering virtual presentations for Columbus State faculty and staff to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom. Each presentation will be part of a larger series of presentations that will occur once a month, leading up to the 2021 Faculty Idea Exchange, scheduled for July 9 at the WD Conference Center.

October FIX VLS Title: Three Faculty Roles in Our Diverse Community College: Teachers, Healers, Exemplars

Presenters: Edgar Velez and Marilyn Howard

Description: In this presentation, Professor Edgar Velez, a philosopher and theologian, and Professor Marilyn Howard, a sociologist and historian, will convey empowering ideas and examples about the development of the concept of the humanity that we all share.  Reflecting on their many years at Columbus State, both presenters will also share personal experiences as cultural outsiders, reminding attendees that knowledge is power and that reading plays a vital role in the development of empathy and curiosity about the human condition.
