The wait is nearly over. Blend, the student-staffed retail bakery in Mitchell Hall, opens Wednesday, October 23 at 7 a.m. A ceremonial dedication will occur at 10 a.m.

Under the supervision of professional cafe and bakery staff, students have been practicing for weeks to prepare for the regular operation, which will be open to the public weekdays from 7 a.m.-2 p.m.

Degrees, the full-service restaurant, is scheduled to open early next year. Both are located on the ground floor of the distinctive Mitchell Hall. The structure has changed the landscape of Cleveland Avenue and the entryway to the College.

The $34.5 million project was made possible with a public-private partnership using a combination of funding from the state, College, and private philanthropy. It was named after renowned restaurateur Cameron Mitchell of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR), which provided generous early support with a $2.5 million gift.

Mitchell recently talked with Update to provide context to his decision to support Columbus State’s Hospitality program. In his own words, he tells how the program has helped build his company and how CMR will remain involved going forward.
