Student News | Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Fresh off a district championship victory, the Columbus State Cougars are headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Cougars earned a No. 9 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Div. III championship. The Cougars will face the 2019 National Champion, No. 8 Herkimer County Community College, on Wednesday, March 11 at noon central time (1 p.m. eastern). The NJCAA tournament is at Rochester Community & Technical College in Minnesota.

Columbus State is making its fifth appearance in program history to the NJCAA tournament. Trips to the NJCAA Div. II tournament were in 2008 (runner-up), 2009 (9th place), and 2016 (Top 12 national finish). For Div. III, the 2016 Cougars team finished in third place overall.

Columbus State is 1-0 all-time against Herkimer, with the last meeting coming during the 2018 national tournament. Should Columbus State advance to Thursday's Quarterfinals, the Cougars would face the No. 1 seed, Sandhills Community College.
