About:
Heather Johnston grew up in South Florida and earned her BA in Communication Process
and Disorders from the University of Florida in 1996. She then moved to Columbus and
trained to work as an Audiologist, earning an MA in Speech and Hearing Science in
1998 from The Ohio State University. After working as an Audiologist at the VA Hospital
in Dayton, she went back to Ohio State to earn her PhD in Cognitive Psychology. Her
expertise is with human learning, memory, sensory perception, and language acquisition.
In 2021, Heather was one of the winners of the CSCC Distinguished Teaching Award.
Heather began teaching at CSCC in 2005. She enjoys regularly teaching psychology courses,
the speech and hearing course, and the first year experience seminar. Outside of
the classroom, Heather is one of the lead faculty for the Freshman Experience Seminar
(COLS 1100). She is passionate about teaching CSCC students and learning about how
to increase their success. In addition to her work at CSCC, Heather is an avid reader
of mystery, science fiction, and fantasy, and loves listening to true crime podcasts.
