Program Learning Outcomes
- Recognize the diverse settings and roles of human service workers in generalist social work, mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictions treatment.
- Critically analyze, synthesize and evaluate multiple sources of information and evidence for assessment, treatment planning and interventions, and document professionally.
- Demonstrate effective engagement and communication skills necessary to build rapport and establish and maintain collaborative relationships.
- Engage in research-informed and evidence-based practices: engagement, assessment, service planning, interventions, evaluation with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
- Understand and demonstrate cultural humility and other congruent behaviors, attitudes, policies that enable a system, agency or professional to function effectively across cultures. Difference or diversity includes but is not limited to sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, immigration status, political affiliation, marital status mental or physical disability and socio-economic status.
- Demonstrate effective group facilitation skills.
- Recognize the multi-faceted nature of addiction and the individualized needs of persons with substance use disorders while demonstrating the 12 core functions of a substance abuse counselor.
- Engage in policy practices to advance social justice and economic well-being.
- Provide effective service coordination/case management services.
- Demonstrate sufficient self-awareness and respond appropriately to feedback.
- Conduct oneself as a human service professional ac- cording to academic program and professional standards, goals, values and the Human Services, Social Work, and Addiction Professionals codes of ethics.
- Demonstrate sufficient self-awareness regarding completence, personal/professional wellness, and impairment, and respond appropriatedly to feedback.
