Hotel, Tourism, and Event Management Major
Completion of the Hotel, Tourism, and Event Management major prepares students for
a wide variety of positions in one of the largest and rapidly growing industries in
the world.
Positions in this area of the hospitality tourism industry include hotels, resorts,
travel agencies, cruise lines, convention and visitors bureaus, airlines, event management
companies, sport management companies, tour operations, attractions, and entertainment.
Preparation for such careers is accomplished through a combination of classroom instruction,
laboratory practice, and required industry work experiences. The curriculum includes
courses in customer service, travel and tourism operations, lodging operations, meeting
planning and catering services, computer systems, casino management, business management,
marketing, human relations, and communication skills.
This major is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality
Administration (ACPHA), which is recognized as quality-certified accrediting institution
by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
