Proficiency Credit for Computer Science Courses
Students who believe they possess the knowledge contained in a course may request of the academic department to take a proficiency examination. A non-refundable $50 fee is charged for each proficiency examination to be taken.
Proficiency examinations are available for the following courses:
- CSCI 1001 Computer Fundamentals
- CSCI 1101 Computer Concepts & Apps
- CSCI 1103 Intro Programming Logic
- CSCI 2467 Java Programming I
You will have one attempt to pass a proficiency exam. Once the exam is started, the exam must be completed in a single session. The exams are closed book and to be completed on your own without external assistance.
Proficiency examination will not be administered during the week of final exams.
To begin the process, complete the department’s online Proficiency Exam Request form. Please allow (3) business days for processing a request.
Proficiency Courses
CSCI 1001
- You are given two hours to complete the exam.
- You must receive 70% or higher to pass the exam.
CSCI 1101
- This is a two-part exam.
- You are given two hours to complete both parts of the exam.
- The first part of the exam is multiple choice.
- The second part of the exam is hands-on, with four sections. You will be expected to perform tasks within Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- You must receive 70% or higher on part one and 70% or higher on each section of part two to pass the exam.
CSCI 1103
- You are given seventy-five minutes to complete the exam.
- You must receive 70% or higher to pass the exam.
CSCI 2467
- You are given seventy-five minutes to complete the exam.
- You must receive 70% or better to pass the exam.
