Military museum founder featured at veterans ceremony

Columbus State will salute staff and student veterans at its sixth annual ceremony to support the troops and military. The event will include the singing of the National Anthem and appreciation remarks. The Capital University Army ROTC will provide the Color Guard.

Warren Motts, founder of the Motts Military Museum in Groveport, will provide keynote remarks. A veteran himself, Motts attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) before his retirement in 1968. He enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard in 1959. Following basic training he completed the U.S. Army Signal School of Photography in New Jersey. Upon returning to Ohio he led the Photography Department for the 37th Infantry Division, State of Ohio.

In 1988, Motts founded the military museum. It houses an extensive collection of artifacts from all wars that America has been involved in.
Nearly 1,000 military veterans take classes at Columbus State this semester. A three-person Military and Veterans Affairs Department assists veterans enrolled at the college.

Because Columbus State is closed on the official Veterans Day holiday, the half-hour commemoration ceremony will take place at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 8 in the courtyard in front of Franklin Hall, 227 Jefferson Ave., Columbus.
