Columbus State Community College has named Matthew Stiffler, the city of Dublin’s chief financial officer, as the college’s deputy CFO. He will join the college on Jan. 13, 2025.
As deputy CFO, Stiffler will oversee the preparation of Columbus State’s $170 million
operating budget and work with longtime Senior Vice President and CFO Aletha Shipley
and her team to provide strategic leadership of the college’s Business Services Division.
Stiffler will also be part of the president’s cabinet.
Stiffler joined Dublin in 2014 and was promoted to CFO in 2019. Among his accomplishments in Dublin, he developed the financing plan for the largest land acquisition in the city’s history, created the first five-year forecast for the General Fund and earned city, state and national accolades for transparency and government accounting excellence. These include the Auditor of State Award with Distinction and Triple Crown honors from the Government Financial Officers Association. Before joining the city, he was a budget analyst for the state Legislative Service Commission.
“Matt will be a great addition to a financial leadership team that is already top-of-class in managing college resources to benefit students and our community,” said President David Harrison. “His broad range of experience, from financial stewardship to creative approaches to economic development projects, will benefit the college as we continue to focus on student success, workforce development and community impact.”
Stiffler said that he was drawn to Columbus State’s mission. “The college’s impact throughout Central Ohio is undeniable, and I’m thrilled to join Columbus State at a moment when there is so much positive momentum,” he said. “My commitment to public service, financial stewardship, transparency and strategic initiatives makes this role a perfect fit for me, and I’m excited to support the community in this way.”
Stiffler earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Rochester. He is a certified public finance officer and Six Sigma Black Belt.
Shipley, who joined the college in 2005 and has been CFO since 2016, said she’s excited to welcome Stiffler to Columbus State. “Matt knows what it’s like to manage a complex financial ecosystem, and that experience will translate well to Columbus State,” she said.
“He will be an important addition to the college’s leadership team.”
