Day of Service 2024

Continuing a tradition launched in 2013 as part of Columbus State’s Silver Anniversary, the college held its annual Day of Service on Oct. 1, near the end of its 60-year milestone recognition. More than 900 faculty, staff, and students registered to take part in the day-long event.

Day of Service underlines Columbus State’s commitment to serving the community. Over the years, it has contributed roughly 10,000 volunteer hours to hundreds of central Ohio nonprofit organizations. It allows employees and students to make meaningful connections through service during a dedicated school/workday.

“Day of Service is the epitome of servant leadership,” said Flo Plagenz, event co-chair. “It is inspiring to see how our collective efforts came together on this very special day.”

College President David Harrison said, “Columbus State serves the community every day, but having one day where we’re focused on that, and making it intentional and doing it together, is really powerful.”

Team leads at each location ensured the day ran smoothly, with the volunteers serving at more than 60 locations involving 49 different organizations.
