“Undetermined Origin: The Upstairs Lounge Arson Attack”

On June 24, 1973, arson at The Upstairs Lounge – a gay bar in New Orleans – led to the death of 32 patrons who were celebrating LGBTQ pride. “Undetermined Origin: The Upstairs Lounge Arson Attack” reflects the events leading up to the fire and the aftermath of the still-unsolved murder case through eyewitness testimony, news reports, and historical documents.

The production was created and directed by Columbus State Associate Professor Frank A. Barnhart. It will premiere on stage from Wednesday, April 13 through Saturday, April 16 at 8 p.m. An additional matinee performance is scheduled for Thursday, April 14.

All performances are in Nestor Auditorium, 488 Mt. Vernon Ave. Admission is free. Masking is optional.
