Men’s Basketball Advances to District Championship

Fresh off a regional championship victory and title, the Columbus State men’s basketball team (17-9) is headed to the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) District II Championship The Cougars will face No. 9 Rock Valley College (Illinois) on Saturday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) in Rockford, Ill.

The Cougars entered the NJCAA Region XII Div. III tournament as the No. 1 seed, routing No. 4 Owens Community College 115-70 and defeating No. 2 Lorain County Community College 68-60 to clinch the championship. The team’s regular season 17-9 record included 11-5 in their conference.

Columbus South High School graduate Jeremiah Green was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after combining for 30 points on 64.2% shooting from the field, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.

If the Cougars win the district title, they will advance to the NJCAA Div. III Championship Tournament, which will be held March 14-16 at Rochester Community College in Rochester, Minn.
