Students, faculty and staff volunteering at locations throughout Central Ohio on September 19, 2017.
What began as a 50th anniversary project for Columbus State Community College has transformed into a major annual service project to give back to Central Ohio.
With the college campuses closed for business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 18, faculty, staff and students will have the option to fan out across Central Ohio to volunteer at social service agencies for a “Day of Service.”
Columbus State President David Harrison first envisioned a service day to give back to the community. In fact, community and civic engagement is a key element of the college’s strategic plan.
Last year, hundreds of people volunteered more than 3,000 hours at dozens of locations. The financial benefit to the many non-profit agencies - where much of the volunteer work is centered - is immeasurable.
This year, hundreds of students, faculty and staff have volunteered once again to roll up their sleeves and pitch in at more than 40 locations.
