In only its second year as a Division II program, the Columbus State
Community College women’s volleyball team is heading to the national
championship tournament Nov. 20 with a 36-6 record and a No. 17 national
ranking.
The team qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association
(NJCAA) Division II tournament by defeating St. Clair County Community
College, Schoolcraft College, and conference-rival Owens Community
College. Columbus State’s Lindsay Puthoff and Jackie Randulic were named
All-Tournament players, and Coach Scott Nichols was named Region 12
Division II Coach of the Year.
The national tournament, Nov. 20-22, will feature 16 teams competing in
Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
The Lady Cougars will hold a special pre-tournament practice session and
pep rally—open to the media—Monday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m. in the
Delaware Hall Gymnasium on Columbus State’s downtown campus. All the
players and Coach Nichols will be available for interviews.
Fans will be able to follow the team’s progress in the tournament online
at www.cscc.edu. The Web site will
feature game reports, photos, video, and blogs from the coach and
players.
In March, Columbus State’s men’s basketball team brought home the
national runner-up trophy.
Founded in 1963, the Columbus State Community College is the largest
community college in Ohio, with more than 24,000 students.
