Volunteer at Franklinton Gardens this Friday

garden photoCougars For The Community student service club, Student Engagement and Leadership, and the Connect-2-Complete Program members will team up to serve at the Franklinton Gardens on Friday, June 27, from3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Franklinton Gardens, 909 W. Rich St., is a nonprofit urban farm located in Franklinton, a historic neighborhood on the west side of Columbus. They are dedicated to growing and sharing healthy food, creating beauty in abandoned places, promoting nutrition and active living, and building community. Volunteers will be planting, mulching and anything that will help to make the Community Garden the best that it can be for our community. If you would like to join the fun, please go to Cougars for the Community’s website www.cscforthecommunity.org and register. This service event is open to all who wish to participate!

 

Empowerment Day, Job Fair is July 23

Join Columbus State at the 2014 Empowerment Day Resource and Job Fair, Wednesday, July 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial, 300 West Broad St. There will be many organizations on hand to distribute information on child support assistance, employment and educational opportunities, resource information for the community and military veterans and their families, legal guidance and more! Bring your résumé and dress professionally. This event is free and open to the public with free parking.

 

 

Second Tobacco-Free Campus forums open to students 

Did you know that Columbus State will become a Tobacco-Free Campus at the start of 2015? The second of two open forums will be held Friday, June 27, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom, fourth floor WD. The forum will discuss the Draft Summary of Findings and Recommendations for establishing a tobacco-free campus.

 


Ethical Decision Making Workshop offered tomorrow!

This interactive workshop is designed to help students navigate the decision-making process while considering potential consequences their rights and responsibilities. Using group discussion and case studies, participants will reflect on personal values and those of the College to determine how they might move forward in their academic endeavors. The session will be offered on Friday, June 20,from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Eibling Hall 201C, and also on Thursday, July 10, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., in Eibling Hall 201C.

Having a plan can save you time and money! Learn how to use your Degree Audit Report (DARS) to create an academic plan that will help you achieve your goals. The workshop is offered on the Columbus Campus on Wednesday, July 2, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Madison Hall 225.

This workshop will cover what goes into a general resume and what should be in the general outline of a cover letter. If you have a resume and/or cover letter, you are invited to bring them with you. All Columbus State students and alumni are welcome to attend.  The one-hour workshop is offered on Wednesday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Aquinas Hall 323.

Financial Literacy Workshop Delaware Campus: Paying for College at Columbus State
Does paying for college seem overwhelming? Come to this informative session and learn about the different ways to finance your education and pay your tuition at Columbus State. Topics will include: the Financial Aid process, searching for scholarships, how to see your account balance and pay your fees on CougarWeb, and Extended Payment Plan options. The workshop is offered on Wednesday, July 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Moeller Hall 111 and 112, on the Delaware Campus.

Apps for College Success
Join Library staff for a discussion on tablet and mobile device apps that can help you with research, note taking, time management, collaboration, and lots more!  Workshop is Wednesday, July 9, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Library, room 111.

Presenting yourself in a professional way is an important part of today’s workplace. Come and learn about professionalism and get some etiquette tips on Thursday, July 17, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Library, room 111.

Tackling Test Anxiety
Do you feel stressed during tests? Get strategies for dealing with anxiety so you can ace your exams! The workshop is offered on Wednesday, July 16, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Library, room 111. 

 

 

Exploring Campus Resources at the Delaware Campus

Delaware campusSo you’ve registered for classes at the Delaware Campus, but now what? This workshop will answer your questions about where to go for all of your student needs—from parking, to campus activities and everything in between. Your education doesn’t end in the classroom, so why should your student experience? Attend this workshop to learn about all that the Delaware campus has to offer. The workshop is Tuesday, July 29, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Moeller Hall 135, on the Delaware Campus.

 

Going Professional with Social Media

Attend a workshop that will introduce you to professional ways to search for careers and connect with employers utilizing Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. This interactive workshop is open to all Columbus State students and alumni on Wednesday, July 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Aquinas Hall 323.
