New Hire Orientation
In compliance with the Public Employee Risk Reduction Act (Ohio Department of Commerce) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Columbus State provides the required training to all new employees during New Hire Orientation. Information includes an overview of CSCC Public Safety department, building egress, hazard communications, fire extinguisher basics, and college emergency alert system.

Safety Training Available Online
In compliance with the Public Employee Risk Reduction Act (Ohio Department of Commerce) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Columbus State provides the required training necessary for specific positions. Training provides the essential general safety guidelines, regulations, practices and principles to promote a safe work environment.
Safety Training for CSCC employees is now available online through Blackboard. The
Blackboard URL is http://courses.cscc.edu. Faculty and Staff use their Novell username and password. Call IT Support at (614)
287‐5050 if you have trouble logging into Blackboard.
After logging in to Blackboard, click on the “My Organizations” tab at the top of
the page and select Health and Safety Training. Available modules are listed in the
column on the left. Each module consists of a narrated presentation, additional
resource materials and an assessment. If you have questions regarding the training
materials, contact Lori Thomas for additional information.
Hearing Conservation Program
CSCC employees working in positions exposed to high noise levels will participate in the Hearing Conservation Program to monitor effects of exposure. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training will be provided to the employee at no cost. All applicable employees should complete the Hearing Conservation training module in Blackboard annually and have a baseline audiometric test within 1 month of employment start date. After a baseline has been established, affected employees should have audiometric testing done annually. Tests will be provided at no cost to the employee and is conducted through OhioHealth at their WorkHealth Centers. (Contact Lori Thomas for additional information)
HeartSaver CPR (Non-Health Care Provider)
Save a life. Learn Adult CPR and be ready to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Also, learn how to operate the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). This training is available to lay-responders and all CSCC employees employees who need CPR recertification. Participants must attend the entire session and demonstrate understanding to receive certification. (Those needing the initial/full course should contact American Heart Association www.heart.org.) NOTE: This session is NOT intended for Health Care Provider recertification. Contact Lori Thomas (x3860) for more information.

CPR Recertification for Healthcare Providers
This course is based on the guidelines and standards set forth by the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (HCP). Course covers Adult and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillation (AED), use of a Bag Valve Mask (BVM), and care to relieve a foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) for the professional audience. Guidelines 2010 for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care are presented and practiced by the student. This course fulfills the required CPR certification for healthcare providers.
