The Music Program: Music Theory & History
For
those who simply enjoy music and would like to know more about, Survey
of Music History, Fundamentals of Music Theory, and World Music, assume
no prior musical instructor and can be taken by anyone.
Those
who are interested in music as a potential career or field of
baccalaureate study will be happy to learn that all music credits taken
at Columbus State transfer to most four-year institutions.
Columbus State also offers a three-quarter sequence in Music
Theory equivalent to that taken by music majors at four-year
institutions.
We also offer a similar sequence in Music History.
As
a special field of interest, Introduction to Electronic Music
deals with the creation of synthesized sound from the earliest
experiments of the 20th century to current Musical Instrument
Digital Interface (MIDI) applications.
This course will soon be expanded to include a new Electronic
Music Workshop, featuring a hands-on environment in the computer music
lab and practice in the manipulation of musical sound.
