Service-Learning
Service-Learning classes include traditional in-class teaching as well as a meaningful
community service project. Service-Learning classes provide hands-on learning and
also demonstrate Columbus State's commitment to our community. Students in Service-Learning
classes learn a lot about the community - and about themselves.
S-Classes
Although any class may include Service-Learning, some classes are designated as "S-Classes."
Those classes have a specific Service-Learning component built right into their curriculum.
A Service-Learning class:
- uses experiential strategies characterized by student participation in an organized
service activity,
- engages in service that meets identified community needs,
- connects service to specific learning outcomes, and
- provides structured time for students to analyze and connect the service experience
to learning.
