Support for Lactating Employees
The college provides employees reasonable break time to express breast milk or breastfeed as needed and will provide lactating employee access to a space that is clean and private.
For information about the college’s lactation spaces, including their locations and how an employee may gain access, and lactation resources, review the information below:
Lactation Rooms
Lactation Room, Columbus Campus
Located in Nestor Hall, Room 019, this lactation room is available upon request for employees and students to express breast milk. The room may be made available beyond 5:00 p.m.
To access the room Monday – Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., employees should exchange their Columbus State ID for the room key located in the Student Engagement and Belonging Office in Nestor Hall 116.
To access the room Monday – Friday, before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m., or on the weekends, please call the Columbus State Police Department (CSPD) at (614) 287-5353 and CSPD will provide access.

Lactation Room, Delaware Campus
Located in Moeller Hall, Room 242, this lactation room is available upon request for employees and students to express breast milk. Please contact Marcia Holleman if you would like access to the space.
Lactation Room, Dublin Campus
Please contact TitleIXCoordinator@cscc.edu if you are in need of a lactation space at the Dublin RLC.

The Compliance Office coordinates lactation supports and can assist employees to identify other private spaces on campus to meet their lactation needs. To explore available options, please contact TitleIXCoordinator@cscc.edu to consult with a member of the Compliance team.

Appalachian Breastfeeding Network (Available to all Ohioans)
Offers a 24-hour breastfeeding hotline for parents or interested persons to speak with a breastfeeding specialist (Certified Lactation Counselor, Certified Lactation Specialist, or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). Call (888) 588-3423 or text BFHOTLINE to 839863
Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to 5-years-old. WIC provides breastfeeding education and support, breast pumps for work and school as needed, and infant formula for infants. No. In fact, spaces provided for employees to express breast milk cannot be bathrooms.
No. An employee is not required to provide a doctor’s note to take lactation breaks.
Tell your employee that you are glad to provide appropriate supports and then consult with Compliance by emailing TitleIXCoordinator@cscc.edu.

If a lactating employee would prefer to use their personal office to express breast milk, they may do so; however, the personal office space must be clean and private, meaning shielded from view and free from intrusion by coworkers and/or the public.
A lactating employee may arrange a lactation space that is clean and private within their department, but they are encouraged to inform Compliance in case the employee or department’s situation changes.
A person’s status as a nursing mother is a protected class. Harassing behavior based on your need to express breast milk should be reported to the Compliance Office via the secure online form or by contacting a member of the Compliance Office.
