Civil Engineering & Surveying
Civil Engineering Technology historically stems for the term given by the military to the "civilian engineers" who developed the roads, bridges and fortifications for the army. Today Civil Engineering Technology has broadened to encompass the planning, design, construction and operation of all aspects of our modern infrastructure.
Through our program, students can earn:
- Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology
- Associate of Applied Science in Surveying
- Land Surveying Certificate (Post-Baccalaureate / 16 hr. state board accredited)
- Surveying Certificate
- Bridge to Fundamental Surveying Certificate

In cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the American Council Engineering Companies of Ohio (ACEC), CSCC developed two certificates designed to prepare students for work with ODOT prequalified consulting companies on ODOT related projects that include state, federal, and local funding.
The Construction Inspector Workforce Program provides a basis for entry-level employment as a transportation Construction Inspector. The program has three components: College coursework, industry certifications, and a formal internship on ODOT related projects.
The program includes:
- College coursework of 38 credit hours in Civil Engineering, Surveying, and Construction Management
- Preparation for the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Highway Construction Levels I & II exams
- Preparation for the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Level I Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification exam
- Preparation for the Ohio Aggregate Level I certification exam
- Flexible Pavement and Traffic Work Zone Safety tests
- Opportunity to apply for a 12 month formal internship on ODOT related projects
NOTE: The internship is NOT guaranteed. As with all internships, students must apply to and be hired by the employer.

- Transportation Construction Inspection Certificate Level I
- Transportation Construction Inspection Certificate Level II

Earned Degrees/Certificates
For students interested in earning a surveying license, the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors approved a "3 + 1" pathway with Franklin University where students can complete an Associate of Applied Science - Surveying Track, the Bridge to Fundamental Surveying Certificate, and then transfer to Franklin University and complete either a BS in Applied Management or BS in Management and Leadership.
Once a student has completed:
- Associate of Applied Science in Surveying
- Bridge to Fundamental Surveying Certificate
- BS in Applied Management or BS in Management and Leadership at Franklin
they are eligible to take the Fundamental Surveying Exam (F.S.)
After they pass that exam and complete 4 years of experience working under a licensed surveyor, they are eligible to take the Professional Surveyor Exam (P.S.)
