Emerald Glen's 3 key objectives for the community are academic enrichment for students, increase resiliency factors, and family supportive services. The objectives are addressed throughout the year and individualized to student and family needs. Students use many on-site tools to help increase their math and reading skills. Part of each day is dedicated to reading and building vocabulary. In addition to language acquisition, students use written responses to help display content knowledge and comprehension. Building on basic math skills with drills, games and online activities are also a daily component of learning. Students attend many field trips during the year and are exposed to a broad array of youth development programming. Parents are offered links to school and community resources. Adult basic ESL classes are offered along with a variety of supportive services.

Columbus State's ESLAsC at Emerald Glen specifically partners with Homeport and South-Western City Schools (SWCS). Homeport provides the space for the programming and also Ameri-Corps members are placed at the site. The members assist with afterschool programming and also serve as a contact for supportive assistance in the community. SWCS places two classroom teachers in the afterschool program. They are a link from the school day and provide consistent academic support to the program. Emerald Glen staff is either physically in the school buildings weekly, or are in contact with teachers and administrators through e-mail. We are committed to keeping communications from school to home a priority. We continue to strive to maintain a safe, caring, learning environment for our students and their families.
