Professional Bio - Mary Marron, Ph.D.

Dr. Maria (“Mary”) Marron received her Bachelor’s Degree from University College in Dublin, Ireland, her native homeland.  She obtained her Master’s in Journalism from the Ohio State University and her Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communications from Ohio University.  She currently resides in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Mary is Chair of the Department of Journalism at Central Michigan University.  She also is a Professor of Journalism at Central Michigan.  Her prior higher education experience is vast.  She formerly served as Professor and Assistant Dean of the College of Communication & Media Sciences at Zayed University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  Prior to her work in Dubai, she was an Associate Professor at Texas State University, San Marcos.  Mary also has professional media experience as a reporter and editor for Irish and U.S. publications.  She also was a public relations officer for an Irish governmental agency. In addition, Mary is a regular media consultant to the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education on accreditation. 

Mary has mastered the art of juggling professional and personal responsibilities, often across two or three continents.  She prides herself on learning and enjoying new experiences and the challenges that life brings her, all the while maintaining an endearing sense of humor and a keen sense of equilibrium.

Mary is highly involved in higher education initiatives.  Though dedicated to her profession, Mary also enjoys socializing with her friends, many of whom she has adopted as her American family members.  Mary’s personal hobbies include traveling, swimming, reading, and embroidering.
