New enrollment process for DACA students detailed
Because of recent action by the Board of Regents and the Attorney General's Office, there is a new process for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students who wish to enroll at Columbus State. With this new enrollment process, DACA students are eligible for in-state tuition.
DACA students must work with the International Enrollment team throughout the application process and submit all required DACA documentation by the stated deadline. The admissions application deadline for Autumn 2013 is August 14. Application and submission of required documentation is encouraged as soon as possible to allow time for questions, advising and processing.
The contact person for students, referrals and questions is Misty Mahefkey, at ext. 2557.
DACA students are not eligible for any state or federal financial aid and they should not complete the FAFSA. DACA students may be limited in their program of study if there are permanent residency or citizenship requirements for licensure or practicum experience such as in Law Enforcement, Hospitality Management, Nursing, and other health areas.
Columbus State is already seeing significant increases in DACA student enrollment. Faculty and staff are invited to attend a DACA information session to learn more about how to support the unique needs and experiences of this student population. The sessions will be presented by members of the faculty/staff DACA Resource Group:
Monday, August 19, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. in FR 110 (brown bag lunch)
Tuesday, August 20, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in FR 110
Are you interested in advocating for students and/or developing your active and empathetic listening skills? This unique professional development class focuses on equipping employees to become trained Columbus State C.A.R.E.S. advocates.
Advocates are prepared to respond to students facing extraordinary situations including financial, academic, and/or personal difficulties. After the completion of this training, employees will be better equipped to help students navigate many of the resources and opportunities offered at Columbus State and in the community. Register online here by clicking on the session titled “Advocacy Training” on the date you wish to attend.

Donald Hadaway, a second-year Respiratory Care student, was recently awarded the Charles Robinson Scholarship for $1000 given each year by the Ohio Society for Respiratory Care.
Stop out to the courtyard on Wednesday, August 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to get a little “appreciation” from Staff Advisory Council—free hot dogs, soft drinks and cookies! SAC will also hold an appreciation picnic for Delaware Campus employees on Wednesday, September 4, also from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If it rains on either of those picnics, SAC has scheduled make-up days of August 16 for the Columbus Campus and September 11 for the Delaware Campus.
