REMINDER: Open Forum today – Delaware Campus Master Planning
The college's master planning process continues. Approximately 160 members of the college community attended the two forums that were held late last semester to give our planning partners from NBBJ their input on two options for the Columbus Campus.
Two options for the Delaware Campus have been crafted by NBBJ for our review and input. Please join us for a forum at the Delaware Campus to review those options on Monday, January 28, 2013, 1:00-2:00 p.m.in Moeller Hall. No RSVP is required to attend.
Titanic play wins three awards
“Titanic: A Retrospective,” the play produced by Theatre Columbus State last season, was the winner of three 2012 Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Awards January 27, including Best Director for theater instructor Frank A. Barnhart; Best Costume Design for student Julie Flynn; and Best Play of 2012! Flynn is a sophomore Arts and Sciences major with a theater emphasis. The play was created by Barnhart to commemorate the historic 100-year anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic.

Open Online Course: Assessing Learning
February 6 through March 1 (online in Blackboard)
All employees, especially faculty, are invited to participate in a self-paced, open online course called Assessing Learning. It will include units on Classroom Assessment Techniques, Providing Feedback and Developing Rubrics. The main objective is to identify and explore questions and issues of great interest to the participants. (This combines and revises two classes previously offered through the Adjunct Engagement Initiative.) Faculty Onboarding and Renewal: “Assessment for Learning”

The next onboarding session will look at the purpose, process and structure of assessment at Columbus State. Columbus State’s Faculty Fellows for Assessment, Adam Moskowitz and Lisa Cerrato, will lead the conversation. This is a great opportunity for those taking the online course to bring their online conversation to a face-to-face meeting. Register in advance.

ODOT unveils concepts for Long St. cultural wall

The Ohio Department of Transportation held a public input meeting recently at the King Arts Complex to unveil the artist concepts for the Long Street Cultural Wall installation. The wall will be located on the south side of the new Long Street Bridge that crosses over Interstate 71 and connects Downtown to the King Lincoln District near campus.
The two finalists selected for public consideration include Larry Winston Collins and Kojo Kamau. The work presented by Collins includes a series of linoleum block prints of famous African Americans that either lived on the Near East Side, or had a connection to the neighborhood through performances at the Lincoln Theatre. The work displayed by Kamau includes a photo montage of people, places and events depicting the historical aspects of the neighborhood, along with educational information to accompany it. A third option was also on display, which combined images and elements from each artist in a collaborative effort.

The completion of the Long Street Cultural Wall and public unveiling of the project is scheduled for Fall of 2013.
Appreciation for the Chair

Global Bridges students attend world health lecture
Three students from the Global Bridges program participated in the Columbus Council on World Affairs (CCWA) lecture titled U.S. Leadership in Global Health in an Era of Austerity. From left are student Paul Saltz, Vanessa Kumar, and students Dawn Musil and Erika Santolalla. Dr. Stephen Morrison, Director of the Center on Global Health Policy, was the keynote speaker followed by a panel discussion on the future of health initiatives around the world. Global Bridges students routinely participate in activities focusing on global leadership, community connections, and current world events.
