Three present at MLA conference
Garry Fourman, chair of Modern Languages, Lisa Schneider, chair of the English Department and English faculty Rachel Brooks-Pannell attended the international Modern Language Association (MLA) convention in Seattle January 5-8. Fourman and Schneider presented “Career Opportunities in Two-Year Colleges,” and Brooks-Pannell and Schneider presented a session called “The Job I Got.” A summary of that presentation can be found in the latest issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education, with the title “MLA Sessions Give Job Seekers Practical Advice and Hope.”
Open gym for employees offered
The Department of Student Athletics and College Recreation offers an open gym for all Columbus State employees on Wednesday afternoons from noon-1:30 p.m. Activities at the open gym include basketball, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball. The opportunity to play or learn other sports is available if participants are interested. Stop by the Delaware Hall gymnasium for a friendly game or contact Scott Nichols at ext. 2616 or at snichols@cscc.edu if you have questions.
Winter reminder about smoking
Smokers are reminded of the city law prohibiting smokers from gathering at entryways. Smoking in proximity to an entrance or exit can cause smoke to drift into the building, or cause nonsmokers to walk through secondhand smoke to enter or exit. The Columbus Dept. of Health and Columbus State Dept. of Public Safety are required to enforce this city law. Thank you for not smoking in or near doorways.
Biking is big in 2012

Now that the New Year has begun, Columbus State’s Bike Advocates hope to really kick the “2by2012” project into high gear.
2by2012 is an initiative supported by the college in which students and employees are encouraged to ride their bicycle to campus at least twice a month.
Ohio State's How We Roll bike advocate group will be here on Tuesday, January 17, at 3 p.m. in the Development Foundation Offices (750 East Long Street) to discuss possible bicycling projects that our two colleges can work on together. If you are interested in participating in this discussion, please attend! Need more information? Contact Rich James.
