Salute to outgoing Board of Trustees members

Library 2nd floor completed
The Library's newly completed second floor is now open for business! Students began flowing onto the
renovated 2nd floor of the Library September 26. Upon their arrival through the building's amphitheatre main entrance, visitors can now use the beautiful glass-enclosed center stairwell to all floors. When they reach the 2nd floor, the Reference staff will be available to serve their reference and research needs in an enlarged Reference area. More than 90 computers are now available in the expanded technology commons.
Construction Management Students earn scholarships
Columbus State Construction Management students, Ryan Siefring and Roberta Snoke were awarded scholarships by the Columbus Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) during a ceremony held on September 21 at the Builder’s Exchange in Columbus. Ryan and Roberta are second-year students who each have a 3.0 GPA or higher in Construction Management.

Planning Guides ready for PERFORMs 2012
PERFORMs Planning Guides for 2011-2012 are now available to be initiated in the COOL system by supervisors. Once your supervisor initiates the Planning Guide you will receive an email letting you know to log onto the COOL system and complete the document. Please remember that the performance year runs from July 1 through June 30. You are likely already accomplishing many important activities to support the success of the College in meeting student needs. Entering your plan in COOL is simply the process of documenting what you are, and are intending to, accomplish this year. When you enter the data in COOL is not necessarily when the work or goals start.
If you need a reminder on how to complete a Planning Guide please refer to the "Using the COOL System" resources on the PERFORMs webpage (click here). You can also register for Webex training if you would like a refresher session on completing a Planning Guide. If you had a new Planning Guide last year, COOL will populate the new guide with last year's information. You will then only need to edit whatever has changed or delete what is no longer needed. If you did not have a Planning Guide last year, then you will need to enter all the required information. Please read the directions in the Planning Guide carefully as there have been some minor changes made to the document to make it a more useful tool for supporting your success.
All changes based on the organizational restructuring have been made in COOL. If you find that there are changes that still need to be made please work with your supervisor to contact your Human Resources Employment Representative at ext. 2408.
While we know many of you have already spent time working on the content of the Planning Guides for this performance year, to ensure you have plenty of time to enter this information into COOL we are asking that all Planning Guides are marked complete by supervisors no later than November 30, 2011. Please check with your supervisor when he or she would like you to submit the document to them.

Student Code of Conduct lists values
Although we begin Fall Quarter with the highest hopes and aspirations for a drama-free educational experience, the Department of Student Life knows that sometimes issues arise. Did you know that Columbus State has a set of values that students must maintain if they want to be a part of the community?
If you have experienced an incident with a student that may be a violation of our Student Code of Conduct, you should let us know so we can address it. You may contact Public Safety or you can use the online incident report link to write directly to the Student Conduct Program Coordinator, Kellie Brennan. The link is found on the Faculty and Staff page under Resources, or you may access it here. You can use this function to submit issues anonymously as well, but it is difficult to respond if we can't follow up for additional information. If you have any questions, you can also call Brennan at ext. 2117 for consultation and support.
As they say, it takes a village to raise a child, and it takes an even bigger village to manage a college campus!
Thirty-one graduate from LogisticsART program
Thirty-one participants graduated September 20, bringing the total number of logistics industry workers trained by Columbus State’s LogisticsART program to
more than 300.
The recent ceremony took place in the Columbus State Conference Center Ballroom, where President Harrison told graduates “We hope this is the start of a long relationship with Columbus State Community College because we truly are your partner for lifelong learning.”
After the LogisticsART graduation ceremony, Congressman Steve Stivers chats with Miguel Navarro, who gave class remarks to his fellow graduates.
The LogisticsART program is designed to attract, train and retain qualified individuals in the field of Logistics. Fully funded by a $4.6 million dollar Department of Labor grant, the program provides training tailored to meet the workforce needs of businesses at entry to mid-level positions within warehouse, distribution, and related logistics positions.
LogisticsART participants Sherry Gassaway and Miguel Navarro gave remarks at the ceremony, as well as Drew Gordon, HR Manager at Big Lots. Congressman Steve Stivers, who had visited Columbus State earlier this summer and was impressed with the program, also took some time out of his busy schedule to congratulate graduates and wish them well.
Attention: Table-top exhibit missing in action
If your department recently borrowed a folding, table-top exhibit booth from the Institutional Advancement Department, please check and see if all pieces of the booth were returned to IA. A booth was recently returned with the blue and gray folding portion missing. Thank you!
