Inauguration Week begins Monday!
A big thank you goes out to all who have signed up to participate in next week’s Inaugural activities leading up to the formal installation of Dr. David T. Harrison as fifth president of Columbus State.
On Monday, March 7, the Inauguration Community Service Project will take place —a Read-In event for second grade students in Columbus Public Schools and Delaware City Schools. Student and employee teams have signed up to read to the children and talk to them about going to college!
On Tuesday, a Breakfast Open House event will be held for community and business leaders at the Delaware Campus. On Tuesday night at 8 p.m., the Columbus State Concert Band and Woodwind Ensemble will perform their Winter Quarter Concert in the Conference Center Ballroom, WD 435.
On Wednesday, an appreciation luncheon for our student volunteers at the Read-In will be held. And Friday is the big event at the Lincoln Theatre in which our new president will be formally installed. This ceremony will be live broadcast on the home page of the website, as well as streamed live into the Nestor Hall Auditorium, starting at approximately 1:45 p.m., as the Columbus State Concert Band begins to play the prelude music! The ceremony begins with a processional march at 2 p.m.
After the ceremony comes to a close, the Inaugural Reception for the Community begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Conference Center on the fourth floor of WD. Also on display in the Conference Center is a Faculty and Department Showcase, with videos, artwork, displays, publications and books from our talented students and faculty – the show runs all week, starting Monday, March 7!

Distinguished Teaching Award finalists selected
After reviewing 35 portfolios from 2010 Distinguished Teaching Award nominees, the selection committee as has chosen nine finalists for classroom observation during Winter and Spring quarters. Of these nine, four will be selected and honored as Distinguished Teaching Award winners during In-Service Day, Friday, April 22. Please congratulate the finalists:

S.M.U.G. meeting is tomorrow
The Columbus State Social Media Users Group (SMUG) will meet Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. in NH 011. We'll take a look at the new Facebook page upgrade that rolls out March 10. Is it really better? Plus we'll reexamine Twitter based on the examples of Southwest Airlines and the Bar Blogger. Then directly after the SMUG meeting, you can attend a Technology Brown Bag session "Help With Blackboard 9.1," at noon, in TL 114!

Don't leave thumb drives or other small devices lying around
Laptops and handheld devices like smart phones aren't the only things that can be stolen from your work space. When not in use, thumb drives and other small valuable devices (wireless cards, headphones, cell phones, etc.) should be stored in a safe place. At the very least, put them in a desk drawer so they're out of sight. Don't tempt a thief.
