Students sign pledge to complete degree
The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will collect pledge signatures from students today all day in the Nestor Hall lobby. Students signing the pledge promise to complete their associate degree at Columbus State. Phi Theta Kappa formed the Community College Completion Corps to actively encourage completion of a college credential, an associate degree or certificate, among community college students. They want students to “commit to complete.” President David Harrison stopped in to sign the form this morning and show his support. Watch it on YouTube!
PERFORMs Learning Community discussions offered
Be a part of the conversation
Each month a small-group discussion, known as a Learning Community Discussion (LCD), will take place on a topic related to the PERFORMs initiative. The purpose of a LCD is to encourage the sharing of what we have learned about performance management and to provide ongoing support with PERFORMs.
These are informal meetings where participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, their experience and their questions on each month’s topic. Sessions will all be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to allow the maximum number of people to participate as their schedules allow.

Activities & Athletics to present eating disorder information
A speech, “Weight No More: The Power of Portion Control” will be offered Tuesday, February 22 at 1 p.m. in DE 080 during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Screening for eating disorders will also be available from 9 a.m. to noon in the Nestor Hall Student Lounge.
Columbus State is saving a forest!
Since the new Ricoh printers and copiers were installed in July 2010
and defaulted to duplexing, (double-sided printing) Ikon has been
able to capture the actual number of duplexed copies/prints generated
through their tracking system. Since July, Columbus State has
saved more than 4.2 million sheets of paper by duplexing.
According to non-profit group Conservatree, a
single tree makes 16.67 reams of copy paper, or
8,333.3 sheets of paper. So that means that
Columbus State has saved approximately 504 trees!
Iron Mountain shredding program also produces benefits
After Iron Mountain securely shreds information collected at Columbus State, the processed materials are transported to paper mills for pulping. This destruction process provides both security and environmental benefits by reducing pollution, preserving landfill space and saving trees, water and oil resources. According to a recent report from the company, Columbus State’s participation in the secure shredding program over the span of a single month has produced the following environmental benefits: 94 trees saved, 38,822 gallons of water saved, 11,092 pounds of paper recycled, 333 pounds (of air) air pollution prevented, 17 cubic yards landfill reduction, 22,739 KW-hours electricity saved, and 2,551 gallons of oil saved.

Traci Haynes, Associate Professor of Psychology; Heather Johnston, Chair, Psychology; and Antoinette Perkins, Assistant Professor of Sports and Exercise Studies, will lead the discussion on Friday, February 18, 10:30 a.m. to noon in CT 107.

Nine students earn aviation maintenance scholarships
The Central Ohio Professional Aviation Maintenance Association awarded scholarships to nine students February 8 which help defray the cost of FAA mechanic certification when the students complete the Aviation Maintenance certificate program. The nine scholarships totaled $8,175. The students receiving scholarships were Richard Whiteside, Jeffrey Topp, Nathan Sauer, Chad Mayeran, Dustin Watson, Eric Rahaman, Chad Houser, David Antle, and Haitam Sheikh.
