Purchasing procedures no strain for Debbie
Although procedures and requirements in the Purchasing Department confuse and befuddle many, system specialist Debbie Strain “wrote the book” and is quite willing to share it with anyone who needs help!
Literally, Strain has written a manual to help campus employees navigate through purchasing rules: “a Purchasing Cliff Notes,” says Stephanie Albrecht, who nominated Strain for Staff Employee of the Month. “The manual answers many questions I have before I even ask them!” says Albrecht. “And when the manual doesn’t cover a specific question that arises, Debbie is always willing to take a few minutes to explain the procedure or course of action.”
“Debbie is very knowledgeable about college purchasing procedures and is often challenged by vendors who change their business practices,” says Brad Farmer, supervisor in Purchasing. “She is very good at creating solutions that will meet both the business practices of the vendor, and the needs of her customers.”
Strain “knows her job—and CSCC—inside and out,” says Albrecht. That may be because she has worked in several departments across campus over the course of 17 years at the college, including Physical Plant. “The best part of my job now is helping someone when they have a challenge obtaining goods or services they need,” says Strain. “By helping them, I can help sustain the educational environment for our students!”
The latest news on Ricoh copiers
We have new copiers! Now, how do we use them?
The new copiers are in place, and your department’s Copier Champion has been trained and is ready to help you with any questions. In addition, training sessions open to all employees will be offered in the next few weeks. Please watch Update for more information on upcoming training dates, times and locations. A Quick Reference Guide has also been posted online.
What in the world is a Copier Champion?
Copier Champions are people in your department who are trained to work the new Ricoh machines. They are usually the smartest people in the department, and the ones who everyone asks questions about new copiers and life in general. If you don’t know who your copier champion is, contact Darrin Albaugh at ext. 2566.
Who you gonna call? 5050!
All questions not answered by your Copier Champion should now be directed to the Help Desk. (Note: This is a change in procedure, as the vendor was previously contacted directly.) To make things simpler and allow us to accurately track usage and service needs, it is required that all questions and service requests go through the Help Desk (ext. 5050).
If your department is in need of immediate training, the Help Desk can also assist in scheduling that with Ikon’s on-site representative, Angie Robinson.
What happened to that thingy on the copier for entering department
codes? You've probably noticed that you can’t enter codes for account tracking at the moment, but please be assured that this is temporary. We are finalizing the programming and testing for the Equitrac system, which will allow us to track copies even more accurately, and will give you enhanced features such as:
More accurate accounting. With the new system, each job will be tracked by individual and department – all from one screen. You will have the ability to bill jobs to any cost center you are authorized to charge to.
Enhanced security. When you send a copy job from your computer, it will not print until you get to the copier and enter your code. So there’s no chance of someone walking off with a sensitive document.
“Follow Me Printing,” allowing job retrieval from any campus copier. After you send a job to the print queue, you can print it from any campus copier (even at the Delaware campus) – now, or later. When you’re ready to print, simply enter your code and your queue will appear on the screen. Choose your document and print.
Greener copying and printing. Because you print when you’re ready, there’s no chance you’ll print a document and forget to pick it up. Fewer wasted copies equals a more sustainable campus.
Equitrac should be in place on all copiers within the next 2-3 weeks.
Is someone going to pick up the old copiers?
Xerox is scheduled to pick up the old machines either late the week of August 2 or early the week of August 9. So they will be out of the way soon. Thank you for your patience with this process.

Don't miss the last Summer Literary Picnic of the season featuring Sharon Davies
Join Thurber House on the side lawn on Wednesday, August 11, when Sharon Davies will read from her debut book, Rising Road: A True Tale of Love, Race and Religion in America.
In Rising Road, Davies recounts one of the most notorious criminal cases of its day. On August 11, 1921, in Birmingham, Ala., a Methodist minister named Edwin Stephenson shot and killed a Catholic priest, James Coyle, in broad daylight and in front of numerous witnesses. Placing this story in its full social and historical context, Davies brings to life a heinous crime and its aftermath, in a brilliant, in-depth examination of the consequences of prejudice in the Jim Crow era. She is the John C. Elam/Vorys Sater Designated Professor of Law at Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law, and is a specialist in criminal law and procedure.
Starting at 5:20 p.m., the Thurber House Young Docents will offer special guided tours of Thurber House. Picnicking will begin at 6:15 p.m., guests can order a delicious catered dinner from Party Panache, or bring their own.
