Porter named Employee of Month

With a job that puts him behind the scenes but dealing with every single department on campus, Brock Porter is one of those “indispensible” employees who the whole college depends on.
Porter works in Shipping and Receiving, headquartered at the DX Bookstore. Everyone gets “stuff” at one point or another, and the first person to receive it is Brock. Your precious stuff gets logged in, delivered, stored, mailed out, stocked or sold to students. Your precious stuff is handled expertly, and you don’t have to worry.
His conscientious work earned him the May Staff Employee of the Month award, which was given to him in a surprise ceremony May 5.
One late Friday evening last month, nominator Gene Strickland, Integrated Media and Technology, had a package to mail and found Porter working on “a ton of textbooks that had to be on the shelves for the weekend. He stopped what he was doing and discussed my options and prepared my package for a Monday pick-up. He handled it in such a friendly and professional manner so I would have peace of mind. I went straight back to my office and wrote this nomination.”
“He is very sensitive to the needs of our working CSCC students who might come to buy books on Saturday,” continues Strickland. “I admire his work ethic and desire to help others.
“Brock always takes time to explain the process of shipping and receiving at the college, although he is obviously always busy. He takes the time to share his knowledge and has always been very helpful in my 10 years of knowing him.”
