Basic Word Processing

Need help learning to create documents in Word? Figuring out margins and other page-layout settings? Saving and printing your documents? This workshop will teach you how to do these and other word processing tasks using the latest version of Microsoft Word.

	Student Employment to give Employee of Year award Columbus State’s Student Employment Services office is the winner of a $500 grant that will allow them to set up a Student Employee of the Year award. Supervisors and staff will nominate student employees who have gone above and beyond their job description to do a good job. The award is designed to recognize students who excel in both the classroom and workplace. “This grant is a great step toward developing a culture of value and recognition surrounding student employment,” says Clayton Gibson, program coordinator. “Student employees really are an energetic and important part of the workforce here at Columbus State.” Half of the money will go directly to a student in the form of a $250 scholarship. The other half will be used to pay for professional development programs for students during the National Student Employment Week in April. Based in the Financial Aid Office, Student Employment Services is new to the campus this year. At any given time, Columbus State has between 200 and 250 student employees working both on-campus and off-campus with a network of nonprofit partners. High school students attend automotive career fair

More than 1,500 middle and high school students, plus their instructors and counselors from across the state, attended the Automotive Technology Day September 24 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. The event was co-sponsored by Columbus State Automotive Technology and the racetrack in conjunction with Jeg’s Sports Nationals drag racing held later in the day.

Students were able to attend a career fair, speak with representatives from Columbus State and other area college automotive programs, and visit with local automotive employers, tool and parts vendors, and representatives from the U.S. Army and Ohio National Guard.

Following the career fair and formal presentation, the students were treated to a full day of activities at the race track. They had the opportunity to experience the world of auto racing first hand and were given open access to the pit area, where they were able to see the vehicles up close and talk to the owners and crews.

Tues. - Fri., October 12-15: “Darius Goes West” The movie plays all week in Nestor Hall East Lounge. Accompanied by his 11 best friends, Darius Weems, a 15-year-old living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), leaves home for the first time. The rowdy crew sets a course for California where they hope to convince MTV to customize Darius's wheelchair on the hit show “Pimp My Ride.” Darius Goes West has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages all around the world. Friday, October 29, 1 p.m. Nestor Hall Room 010 – Live Webcast with Darius Weems from Darius Goes West. Monday, October 18, 12-1 p.m., Eibling Hall Room 101, presentation: “What Do I Do with this Accommodation Form?” Has a student given you an Accommodation Form for your class, and you weren’t sure what to do with it? This session will teach you about your responsibility as a faculty member at Columbus State. Friday, October 22, 12-2 p.m., Eibling Hall Room 101, The State Organization on Arts and Disability Mural Project    What does the American Disabilities Act, inclusion and access mean to you? Twenty-seven artists with disabilities from across Ohio answered that question in response to a call for art in June. Eleven of these artists traveled to Columbus July 23 - 25 to create a mural celebrating the 20th anniversary of the ADA legislation. This presentation will explain how the artists created the piece of work. Monday, October 25, 12-2 p.m., Assistive Technology Training Center Open House, Eibling Hall 127 Take a tour of the Disability Services Alternate Media Production Room. An Alternate Media Specialist will explain the process of how students receive e-texts and other alternate media service at Columbus State. Whole month of October: Departmental Brown Bag Presentations Disability Services will present a brown bag workshop for your department on the basics of accommodating disabled students in the classroom, and faculty responsibilities to those students.  Contact Lori Trent Ltrent2@cscc.edu ext. 5187 to set up a session for your department.

Supervisor position available in LogisticsART program

PC and printer replacement news
As part of Columbus State’s ongoing “technology refresh” cycle, all pre-approved desktop PCs and printers due for replacement in this year’s capital equipment process will soon be replaced. With this new equipment, we will be able to realize reduced energy costs, faster processing speeds and improved productivity for the college.

In mid-October, PC replacement will begin in offices, computer labs and the testing center. In November, smart classrooms will be upgraded.  All work should be completed in three months.

Your new PC will come with Windows 7. A schedule for upcoming Windows 7 training sessions will be available soon on the Intranet.

So how will you know if your desktop PC is being replaced? You can check the Intranet for the PC/Printer Replacement Schedule and other important updates regarding the capital equipment rollout.  You will be contacted directly regarding your installation schedule. If you have a conflict, please contact the IT Support Center (ext. 5050). We will work hard to accommodate your schedule and to minimize work time disruption as we upgrade desktop PCs across campus.

All relevant data from your current desktop PC will be transferred to your new PC.  When you are contacted, you will be reminded to copy all files you want to save into the “My Documents” folder.  You can also contact the IT Support Center (ext. 5050) if you need assistance in collecting and moving your files.
We also will be working with our new printer vendor to bring the most cost-effective printers to our users, based upon their approved capital equipment requests.

 

	Fulltime and Adjunct Faculty Handbooks; Promotion and Tenure Handbook now online Online copies of fulltime and adjunct faculty handbooks are available at the Columbus State website.
