Egypt Project looking for campus volunteers scene of EgyptColumbus State is taking part in an Egypt Project sponsored with the support of Community Colleges for International Development (CCID), of which Columbus State is a member.

A committee has been organized to prepare for the August arrival of four students from Egypt who will be studying in the Dental Lab Certificate program beginning this Fall Quarter. The young men will be with us for one year. In addition to taking classes, they will participate in a number of leadership development and other academic and career enrichment activities during their time at Columbus State.

The CCI grant program will be administered through the Diversity, Study Abroad and TRIO Programs Department, directed by Renee Hampton, with Kimberly Brazwell, Coordinator of Diversity and Study Abroad Programs, serving as the CCI project coordinator. The project leaders are asking for help from the campus community with the following functions of the Egypt Project:

CCI Project Committee: Provides support and overall direction of the program in conjunction with the project coordinator.

CCI Mentor: Serves as mentor to one of the Egyptian students, providing support, information and assistance navigating Columbus State, the Columbus community, and serves as a general "go to" person for the student, welcoming them to the college and assisting with their transition to being a student here.

CCI Conversation Partner: Serves as a conversation partner to help a student build English language skills through informal, supportive conversation.

CCI Program/Workshop/Session Presenter: Provides one or more educational sessions, workshops or presentations on some aspect of leadership development, including politics and governance in the United States, community resources, career enrichment, language, culture, social networking, etc.

If you are interested in serving in one or more of these roles, please email your interest to Kimberly Brazwell or call her at ext.2426.
