Clinton campaign stops at Columbus State for town meeting

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign came to Columbus State on Friday, Feb. 22, to hold an invitation-only town hall meeting in the WD Ballroom. A crowd of 350–400 heard from several students, faculty and alumni about various issues, which Sen. Clinton then addressed, such as health care, education, retraining, jobs, and the housing crisis. All of the presidential campaigns are currently focusing on Ohio, where primaries will be held March 4. President Moeller introduced Sen. Clinton, who responded, “Thank you Madame President . . . I really like the sound of that!” The Clinton campaign leased the Ballroom on Thursday for the event and invited all guests to attend.

Volunteers still needed for Central District Science Day March 22Columbus State will be hosting the Ohio Academy of Sciences Central District Science Day on Saturday, March 22. Approximately 500 students from local area middle and high schools will present their science projects in hopes of advancing to the state competition in May. Volunteers are needed to judge these projects and assist in the smooth operation of the activities. If you have already volunteered for this event, thank you!

Judges will be needed from 8 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m. If you have never judged before, don’t worry. An orientation session will assist you. All judging is done in pairs, and any inexperienced judge will be paired with an experienced judge to help you along.

Additional volunteers are needed to ensure smooth operations during the event. Times of service will vary. Volunteers help students find their display sites, assist in registration, tally up the scores, assist the judges by collecting score cards, and acting as hall monitors to maintain order and security. There is a volunteer job for every person regardless of science training.

This is an excellent community service opportunity, so please come and make it a success.

Emergency Food Drive completedThe emergency food drive held by Staff Advisory Council during the Winter Wellness Fest Feb. 20 raised money and donations for 291 meals for the MidOhio Food Bank.  During the Wellness Fest, SAC also held a raffle, and the winners were: Pat Rowe, faculty, Rosalind Porter and Alissa Price, staff, and Chennelle Golden, a student. The members of SAC want to thank everyone who participated in the Emergency Food Drive for the food bank this month.

During the hour-long session, Stan Jensen, a systems expert, will share how to use one or two tools. He will also apply the tool to a real world Columbus State system. Stan is a very dynamic and fun speaker and you will enjoy his sessions.
