Javadi and student present research at Miami UniversityReel logoMort Javadi, Ph.D., associate professor in the Biological and Physical Sciences, and his capstone student Joshua Grant participated in the 2008 Research Experience to Enhance Learning (REEL) Symposium hosted by Miami University and sponsored by the National Science Foundation in early November.

Grant presented the result of his work titled “Elemental Concentrations in Soil Solution as Affected by Centrifuge Speed and Duration.” The research initiatives and activities of faculty in the Biological and Physical Sciences Department have resulted in recognition of Columbus State by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as one of the REEL Institutes. NSF’s goal is to foster undergraduate research in theses institutes. According to David Hodge, president of Miami University, the REEL project will undoubtedly increase the retention and graduation rates in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields that are so critical for the state of Ohio and the nation.
