lunch bagLunch and Learn workshops help with fraud protection, holiday stressThe next Lunch and Learn workshop will be held Thursday, December 4, from noon to 1 p.m., and discuss “How to Protect Yourself against Fraud and Scams.” The workshop will be held in WD Room 305 and will be facilitated by Midstate Educators Credit Union.

lady with headacheThen on Wednesday, December 10, Lunch and Learn will focus on “Stress and the Holidays.” Come to this workshop and hear about a few stress reduction techniques that can help you enjoy this time year more than ever. As a further stress reduction technique, hot spiced cider will be served! The workshop will be facilitated by Dianne Fidelibus, Instructor, MH/CD/MR Program. It will be from noon – 1 p.m. in WD Room 407.

Please email Lcarman@cscc.edu to sign up for either Lunch or Learn Workshops. Remember, they will count toward your Wellness Incentive Program, which officially starts in January 2009.

 

Business Services closed Dec. 5The Business Services department will hold a department retreat on Friday, December 5. All Business Services offices will be closed, including Mail Services and the Shipping/Receiving dock, the Cashier’s Office and the Grants Office.   There will not be any U.S. mail pickup or drop-off at the Post Office or interoffice mail delivery. If you have any special mail or shipping needs please contact Eric Johnson at ext. 2568.

Dependent Fee Waivers due Dec. 12Due to the holiday season and other processing issues, Employee/Dependent fee waivers must be received  in the Human Resources office by Friday, December 12, at the close of business (4:30 p.m.) to guarantee that they are processed before late fees are assessed.  Fee waivers received after December 12 will not be processed.

 

Bring holiday cheer to our troops by volunteering with Red Cross holiday graphicThis holiday season, the Red Cross is partnering with Pitney Bowes for the “Holiday Mail for Heroes” campaign. They will collect holiday cards to distribute to American service members, veterans and their families in the United States and around the world.

All cards must be sorted and prepared before being sent to various military installations and VA hospitals and the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus will be assisting in this process.  To learn more about the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign, please click here.

Volunteer details:
When:  Sorting will take place on Monday, December 8, Tuesday, December 9, and Wednesday, December 10. Two-hour shifts between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. are available.

Where:  995 East Broad St, Columbus, OH 43205

Who: Anyone who is interested in a holiday season volunteer experience (age 16 and older).  You do not need to be a registered Red Cross Volunteer to take part in the sorting.

Cocchi receives leadership award, named to mayor’s council

Wayne Cocchi, director of Disability Services and Counseling Services, received the Governor's Council on People with Disabilities Maureen Fitzgerald Leadership Award at the Council’s annual awards ceremony. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated the ability to empower youth with disabilities to accept the challenges of life and provide them with the determination and tools to make a change in their lives and the lives of others. Cocchi has been involved in the GCPD's annual summer Youth Leadership Forum for the past 10 years and is a past president of the council.

Cocchi has also been recently appointed by Mayor Michael Coleman, with the approval of the Columbus City Council, to the Advisory Committee on Disability Issues for the city of Columbus. Cocchi will serve a three-year term through June 30, 2011.

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) will host the final bake sale and raffle for the Annual Holidays are for Kids Campaign on Thursday, Dec 4, from 10a.m. – 2 p.m. The raffle drawing will begin at 2 p.m. The members of SAC hope to raise $1,000 this year.  
Some of the raffle prizes include:  

  • Four parking spaces on campus

  • Hotel stays at the Hampton Inn/Suites in the Short North and Cherry Valley Lodge.

  • Other items including donations for lunch at Christopher's, AMC movie passes, crafts created by Columbus State employees, Kroger gift cards, DX gift certificates, massages, cookbooks, and more.

 

 

 

Cancer Support Group to meet Dec. 4 The Cancer Support Group will meet December 4 at noon in the DX in the 3rd floor conference room. This group will meet the first Thursday of each month at noon in the DX.

Cancer survivors Terri Miller of Human Resources and John Nestor of Public Safety coordinate the group’s function, purpose and activities. This is an opportunity for employees affected by cancer to come together to share information and resources.
