IMPORTANT!  Info for 2008 Showcase:

·        New project categories --   Project categories have been reorganized.  Please be sure to circle the correct category for the student project when filling out the Registration Form.

·
Change in awards -- There is now a “Best in Category” award for each category.  (These replace the former “Best in Show” awards.)

·
Recalling a project for a second judging --  To assist with selecting one Best in Category winner, judges may – if they wish – recall up to three teams to present their projects a second time.  If this occurs, project teams must select ONE presenter, who will have a maximum of 5 minutes to present a brief overview to the judges.  Judges will then have a maximum of 2 minutes to question the presenter.

·
Bring project teams only, please –  This year, teachers may bring only those students who are presenting their Showcase project.  (One “alternate” or one technical assistance person may also come.)  Due to costs and other concerns, you may no longer bring your entire class.

·
Schedule for project presentation – In an effort to keep the Showcase on schedule, each team will be assigned a time to present its project to the judges.  The schedule for each project will be published in the program book (which students will receive when they check in at the registration table before project set-up).  Projects will be scheduled in random order.  Please note that teams may be called for presentation SOONER than the scheduled time, if preceding project presentations take less than their allotted time.

·
Supervision of students – Teachers are responsible for supervising their students, making sure they keep their voices low, stay in the assigned areas, etc.

·
“Green Room” – Once students have finished setting up their project, they must leave the competition area.  Teams may use a special, quiet “Green Room” this year to prepare BEFORE their group presentation.  Use of the Green Room is optional; teams may also choose to stay in the “Waiting Room” (see below).  A Showcase volunteer will look for them in either room when it is time to go to their project (5-10 minutes before presentation start-time.)

·
“Waiting Room” -- AFTER a team has given its presentation, students must leave the competition area immediately and go to the designated Waiting Room, where snacks and low-key entertainment (board games and videos) will await them.  They are to stay in this area until further instructed (for lunch or the awards ceremony).  Also, Showcase volunteers will come to this room to find teams’ designated single presenter, should the judges wish to conduct a second judging to determine a Best in Category winner.
